IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Jordan’s Principle Urban Office – Case Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Urban Jordan Principle Urban Office Case Manager, the Land Base Coordinator is responsible for providing support and teaching in delivery of the Land Base Program. They will promote cultural awareness and work with existing staff to plan and deliver Land Base Activities for children and families. Activities include:
- Create and coordinate land-based activities, including seasonal camps, workshops on traditional skills (hunting, fishing, trapping, foraging, medicine gathering), and cultural workshops.
- Organize, promote, and lead programs for community members, with a specific focus on youth and families.
- Work with Elders to incorporate traditional teachings, protocols, and language into daily activities.
- Develop work plans, manage program budgets, secure funding through grant writing, prepare reports, and manage logistics for travel to land-based sites.
- Ensure the safety of participants during outdoor activities, including maintaining equipment, adhering to health protocols, and obtaining necessary certifications.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on youth engagement and community outreach;
- Knowledge and experience working with children, youth and families in a healing and reconciliation capacity;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
- Capable to work independent and in a group setting which may include local entities and other programs;
- Communicate in a professional and respectful manner at all times;
- Experience working in an office setting and having experience completing reports, work plans, etc would be an asset;
- Mino-pimatisiwin – living the good life, drug and alcohol-free;
- Able to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate program scheduling.
- Must adhere to Fisher River Cree Nation Policies and Procedures, including the Illegal Drug By-law;
- Must submit, current Criminal Record Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.
