You may have noticed the installation of our brand new road signs throughout the community. This is an exciting step forward as Fisher River Cree Nation, the Lands & Resources Department in partnership with HTFC Planning & Design, works to complete the house numbering and road naming system for our community.
This new system will:
– Help community members, visitors, and delivery services navigate on-reserve
– Aid emergency services and move us closer to establishing 911 service on-reserve
– Reinforce Fisher River Cree Nation’s sense of place and promote our community as a destination
With the valued participation of Elders and community members, we now have a name in both Cree and English for every road in our community. Furthermore, Fisher River Cree Nation, the Lands & Resources Department and HTFC are collaborating with provincial 911 coordinators to bring emergency services to our community. As the House Numbering and Wayfinding project nears completion, the next step is to finalize agreements with emergency service providers and dispatch agencies.
However, it has come to our attention that some new road signs have gone missing. We want to make it very clear that **taking or removing any road signs is illegal**. This action not only violates the law but also creates potential safety risks for everyone in the community by hindering navigation and emergency response.
Please help us protect these important signs. Your cooperation is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of all community members and visitors.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
