The Manitoba government is taking steps to ensure residents can access critical mail during a disruption in postal services. Cheques, court orders, educational materials, and medical supplies will be directed to distribution centres across the province, which open October 3.

“If you currently receive your payments or benefits by direct deposit, you will not be affected by the postal disruption,” notes the government.

Critical mail also includes items required to maintain health care services and other priority materials.

Residents can pick up mail at designated locations or drop off letters for provincial government services. Letters must include the department, room number, street address, and city or town.

Businesses sending employees or couriers must include a letter of authorization on company letterhead.

“Business owners can use their business card along with proper identification to pick up mail,” continues the government.

“If you are picking up a tax refund on behalf of a business, a completed Authorization or Cancellation of a Representative form is also required,” remarks the announcement.
