Fisher River Mourns Lifelong Friend & Leader, Grand Chief Cathy Merrick

In a time of sorrow, we come together as a community to mourn the passing of a beloved leader, Grand Chief Cathy Merrick of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. On behalf of Chief David Crate, the Council, and the entire Fisher River Cree Nation community, we extend our deepest condolences to Grand Chief Merrick’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Grand Chief Merrick held a special place in our hearts, with deep roots in our community. She was not only a leader but also an aunty to many and a lifelong friend to so many more. Her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication to Indigenous rights and advocacy have left an indelible mark on our community and beyond.

Her legacy of leadership and service will continue to inspire us as we strive to honor her memory and carry forward the work she was so passionate about. We are grateful for the time we shared with Grand Chief Merrick and for the positive impact she had on our lives and our community.

During this difficult time of loss, may we find comfort in our memories of Grand Chief Merrick and in the knowledge that her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones as they navigate this profound loss.
